Minutes – ORVLA Board of Directors Meeting 8/24/24
ORVLA BOD meeting was held via teleconference on Saturday August 24, 2024
All Board of Directors members were present.
The meeting was called to order by President Schilling at 2:09 p.m.
Minutes from the annual meeting were approved with no changes.
Treasurers report was approved. Kris indicated that the billing for the per-llama fees for the 2024 show from the ILR-SD has not been received. Also, any money from ILR for being a championship show has not been received. These two items are not reflected in this Treasurers report.
ORVLA Classic Show:
Old business:
Show results have been received from show clerk, Jean Haumschild. Since they are fourteen pages long it was decided to just print the Grand, Reserve Grand and Best of Show results in the Topline. The full listing will be put on the ORVLA website.
If anyone has photos from the show please send them to Char for the web site. This includes Ohio State Fair photos.
We need to keep better track of donor names and addresses to send thank you cards. It was also suggested to put thanks you notes in the show packets of those donors who will be at the show instead of mailing.
2025 Show discussion:
The ORVLA Classic show will be held the last weekend in April, 2025 at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds.
The BOD discussed if we wanted to apply to be an ILR-SD Championship show again. We agreed to pursue this. The application process should be the same as it was for the '24 show.
.
The BOD agreed to hold a fiber competition again, but probably without finished products. We agreed to be sure there were enough ribbons for the fiber placings.
Judges for the show were discussed and those proposed will be contacted right away.
There were requests to move Showmanship classes to Sunday. This was viewed favorably if the timing can be worked out. It was suggested to start earlier on Sunday as a possible solution. A final decision will be made later.
The BOD was asked to think about farm gifts, Grand and Reserve and Best of Show awards.
We will need to find additional person or persons to serve as ring stewards as the current volunteers have some physical issues that may prevent them from fulfilling those duties.
Topline:
The article and pictures about the Haumschilds being honored at the ILR-SD Gathering for their service to the llama industry have been received by the editor.
Christmas Luncheon/ Annual Meeting:
The Annual meeting and Christmas luncheon is set for December 7 (first Saturday in December) at Walnut Creek Cheese in Sugarcreek, Ohio. Possible menu was discussed and the Amish “Stack” was chosen. Pricing was also discussed.
Former member and former llama owner Adam Black has been asked to speak at the luncheon. Adam has become somewhat of a celebrity in the horse training world and has some fascinating stories and experiences to share. Bev will talk to Adam to get a bio to go with the meeting announcements.
Election:
Kris, Bev and Renee's terms are up this year. Kris and Bev have agreed to run again, Renee has declined. During the meeting Eugene Robinson was contacted and he agreed to run. Other members were suggested and will be contacted for their interest. Nomination forms will be submitted to the Secretary.
Misc. Discussion:
Bill A. has updated/corrected member addresses and contact information.
So far, there have been four Sunshine cards sent to members for their issues (deaths, injuries, etc.)
Char made a motion to adjourn, Bill Amidon seconded, all in favor. Meeting adjourned at 3:46 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Bill Safreed
